Motion Week 2

On our second week of motion, we focused more on push/pull! The highlights of this week were:

Making our own trains with sponges & water bottle caps and...

SCOOTERS! We did our own hands-on investigation of push/pull with scooters and the kids thought I was nuts when I moved all of our tables and chairs to the side of the room so we had room to play, but they begged to do it again & again! I love how fun our learning is and when they want more! :)

Ask Your Child About:

-Writing: Informative Writing- We wrote about the ways different animals move this week to give the reader information. How do rabbits/monkeys/otters/panda bears move?

-Content Connection: Push vs. Pull - What are things we can push? What are things we can pull? Are there things we can push AND pull? (wagons, tables, etc.)

-Sight Words: green, you, if

-Phonemic Awareness: Ending Sounds - We started using our white boards to write the beginning and ending sounds of CVC words that I say and a lot of our friends are able to fill in the middle sound too! :) I am SO proud of our kiddos!

-Reading: Unknown words & matching the illustrations to the text. We read the big book, "Move!" and focused on unknown words of how the animals move: snakes slither, whales dive, etc.

-Math: Decomposing teen numbers into ten ones and further ones. Can you show me how to make a tree map of the number 12? Bonus points if they can move the numbers into the equation: ___ = ___ + _____

Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

With SO much love,

Ms. Ham
