Ocean Animals: Week 2!

We had such a fun week getting ready for the Fun Run! We continued learning about ocean animals but focused on dolphins and sharks this week! We read some great fiction stories about sharks, but this unit is a HUGE nonfiction unit! We've been researching using PebbleGo to learn about ocean animals' bodies, habitats, food, life cycle, & fun facts! We've been pulling out key details and comparing it with other types of ocean animals. They're loving it.

We've been doing more of a writer's workshop style block of writing lately since their sentences are getting so strong! This gives them the opportunity to write as much as they can about what they've learned and they're really impressing me.

April number corner is all about measurement! So far, our pattern has been tools for measuring length, weight, capacity, & temperature! In math, we worked on greater than & less than with teen numbers and double ten frames.

We have one more week of ocean animals before we switch to farm animals!

Ask Your Child About:

-Phonological awareness: sound manipulation in the final position

-Phonics: digraphs, diphthongs, vowel teams

-Writing: adding details to our sentences

-Reading: re-reading when something doesn't make sense!

-Science: life science- ocean animals' life cycle, characteristics, etc.

-Math: comparing numbers using greater than, less than, and equal to (double ten frames)

-Technology: Angry birds coding!

FYI:

-We changed spots at tables and carpets for 4th quarter! They got to pick a place they thought they could make good choices, and so far they're doing quite well with their choices.

-Field trip forms will be going home in Thursday folders this week!

-Games Day order forms were due on Friday! Please contact Mr. McCarter if needed.

-Library is back! Please make sure your child's book is returned each week so he/she can check out a new one!

With the field trip info., I will do my best to get you important dates/info. for the remainder of the year! We only have 7 weeks left & it will go quicker than you think! :) I started pulling pictures for the slideshow and it's amazing to see how much they've grown since August!

Have a wonderful weekend!

With SO much love,

Ms. Ham
