Dr. Seuss Week!

This is one of the best weeks of the school year! We had so much fun celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday & reading as many of his books as we could!

We read "Fox in Socks" on Monday and had our sock hop with Mrs. Krause's class:

We read "Green Eggs and Ham" on Tuesday! We ate green eggs & ham, and graphed our opinions!

We read "Wacky Wednesday" on Wednesday & wore silly mismatched clothes!

We read "Cat in the Hat" on Thursday & wore hats! We also made Thing handprints & wrote about what we would do if we were things!

We read "The Cat in the Hat Comes Back" on Friday and had Dr. Seuss's birthday party!

We also "who'd" ourselves and wrote "Who's Who?" using descriptive language. Check out our bulletin board at conferences! :)

I loved seeing so many of you at the Seussival carnival!

& We made oobleck during STEAM on Wednesday!

This week is such a fun reminder of why I LOVE kindergarten. SO many of them realize that they can read "real" books during this week from "Hop on Pop" to "Green Eggs and Ham" to "Fox in Socks!" They get so excited and it's the best feeling ever.

Ask Your Child About:

-Phonemic Awareness: sound manipulation in all positions, rhyming

-Phonics: digraphs, diphthongs, & vowel teams

-Writing: descriptive writing, narrative writing, & opinion writing! We did it all this week!

-Reading: What were the 2 reasons Dr. Seuss wrote books? (Author's Purpose!) ---> For kids to learn how to read (Hop on Pop, Green Eggs & Ham, etc) & to tell a message! (The Lorax, Bartholomew and the Oobleck, Horton Hears a Who!, etc)

-Science: matter (oobleck)

-Math: Addition

Thank you so very much to those of you who donated items for Dr. Seuss week! We had so much fun!

See you all at conferences next week (3/11,3/12, 3/13)!

With SO much love,

Ms. Ham

Meet Ms. Ham

Hi, I'm Ms. Ham!  This is my 6th year teaching kindergarten. I love my job and my students (past and present!)  This website has all of our weekly updates to fill you in on what is going on in our classroom!  I hope that you leave with a kindergartener's enthusiasm for living and learning!
