Final Week of Ocean Animals

We had one last week of studying ocean animals: sea turtles, crabs, lobsters, & octopi! We've been comparing each new animal with previous animals we've learned.. focusing on the differences between fish, mammals, and crustaceans.

One of their favorite activities we did this week was measuring whales with Mr. Dan's big tape measure!

We had to go all the way out the door because our hallway wasn't big enough for some of the whales! They thought this was crazy! :)

We had some fun predicting the snow on Wednesday:

Because if it's going to snow in April, we may as well have some fun with it...

We had some fun in the learning commons when we were stuck inside for indoor recess. These 3 persevered to figure out this tricky puzzle!

& Lastly, we got ready to start our new unit where we will be researching and writing "All About" books about the farm animals we picked:

Ask Your Child About:

-Phonics: digraphs, vowel teams, diphthongs

-Phonemic Awareness: syllables, segmenting, sound manipulation

-Writing: What things are on our writing checklist? What are things good writers do? Which farm animal did you pick for your research?

-Reading: re-reading when it doesn't make sense!

-Science: living things: ocean animals! Which animal is the longest? Which ocean animals are mammals? How do you know?

-Math: Story word problems- addition & subtraction! Is there a more efficient way to solve the problem?
