We Huffed & We Puffed... (Motion Week 3!)

For our final week of motion, we focused on "The Three Little Pigs" and the forces that blew down those poor little pigs' houses. We are SO in love with this book and I was begged to read it again and again (is there anything better!?). The kids loved getting to read our favorite parts with me: "Little pig, little pig, let me in!" "NO! Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin!" "I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house in!" :)

We got to work at the beginning of the week discussing whether the wolf used a push or a pull to blow down each house and why he couldn't blow down the 3rd pig's house. We created a class anchor chart and then Tuesday and Wednesday were spent brainstorming ways we could knock down houses during content time. Thursday was the most exciting day because we got to be the big, bad wolf....

Let me just say... we loved demolition! :)

The other REALLY exciting news of the week is that as of Tuesday, we officially have 100% of our class knowing all 52 letters and 26 letter sounds! I am SO proud of them...

& if you ask me, the only right way to celebrate is with ice cream, so on Thursday we had an ice cream party!

Our assistant principal, Mrs. Thomas-Dickey even came in to celebrate with us and we showed off our letter sounds with motions and she was very impressed! :)

Ask Your Child About:

-Writing: Informative writing- This week we focused on giving information about each pig's house in "The Three Little Pigs" and whether or not the wolf was able to blow the house down.

-Content Connection: Forces of motion- did the wolf use a push or a pull? (push)

-Phonics: Ending sounds, CVC words

-Reading: Unknown words, main idea & key details- What details were the same in "The 3 Billy Goats Gruff" and "The 3 Little Pigs?" What was the main idea of "Sheep Take A Hike" and "Sheep In A Jeep?"

-Centers: Which "3 Little Pigs" center was your favorite?

-Math: Numbers 11-15- making tree maps and writing equations for teen numbers, comparing numbers 0-10- Can you show me how to make a tree map of a teen number?

If you have these items lying around your home and would like to donate them, we'll gladly take them off your hands:

-Cereal boxes (empty!)

-Pasta boxes or other cardboard food boxes

-Restaurant Menus

-Grocery List Notepads

Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

With SO much love,

Ms. Ham
