We've moved on from motion to people & events of now & long ago. We focused on the First Thanksgiving and events on a calendar/months of the year.
With Thanksgiving, all of our centers were food themed and we loved it!

We made sight word sandwiches and then wrote down the recipes for the sandwiches (aka: the sight words!)

We played with food and made grocery lists of things we buy at the grocery store!

We read books on nutrition and being healthy. Proud realization of the week: kiddos are rushing through their first center to get to the book tub center. These guys can't get enough of reading and it makes my heart so happy! :)
Ask Your Child About:
-Writing: Narrative writing- What couldn't they do before that they can do now? What word do we use writing narratives? (then)
-Content Connection: Why did the Pilgrims have the first Thanksgiving? What are the months of the year in order? What's a timeline?
-Phonics: Ending Sounds & CVC words
-Reading: Identifying characters, setting, & main idea- What was Pete The Cat doing in "Pete The Cat: The First Thanksgiving?" (He was in his school play) Who is the character? What is the setting of the story? What was the main idea of "A Plump and Perky Turkey?"
-Math: Numbers 11-15 - Which number is greater: 9 or 7? Which number is less: 5 or 3?
A Few Other Things:

We loved our turkey hats for our Thanksgiving Feast at the cafeteria & I sure do love my little turkeys! :) I am oh so thankful to spend my days with them.

I have the best problem in room 1-139 right now. I have kids bringing in books for me to read to the class… not just one book, but piles of books. And how am I supposed to say no to that?! My first [awful] thought is that we don’t have time for that, and then my next thought is if we don’t have time in kindergarten to celebrate loving books, then they will stop loving books. So Thursday, we read “The Three Billy Goats Gruff” again because we read it last week and one of my sweet babies found her version of the book at home to bring me (along with 4 other books of her choosing). I've always said that if nothing else, I want my students to leave my room LOVING books... & I think we're accomplishing that just fine. :)
I hope you had a wonderful weekend and practiced those sight words!
With SO much love,
Ms. Ham
