Energy

This week we moved on to energy: heat, light, and sound. The kids loved reading informational texts about different types of energy and had great connections! I think their favorite thing was making instruments and seeing the rubber band vibrate (because sound waves vibrate).

My dad was in town Wednesday-Sunday, so he volunteered in our room Thursday morning! The kids loved getting to read with him... and he's so happy he finally got to meet them. My family and friends hear stories all the time, but it's different actually getting to see kindergarten in action! :)

Ask Your Child About:

-Phonics: Vowel Teams ee & ea, bossy e, rule breakers

-Phonemic Awareness: Sound deletion (what is cat without the /c/?)

-Reading: Identifying key details

-Science: What 3 types of energy did we focus on? (Heat, Light, Sound) What do sound waves do? (Vibrate) Can you give me an example of each?

-Math: We learned new subtraction centers- how do you play subtraction smash? Subtraction bowling?

-Writing: How does a tree map help you write 3 sentences?

Here is the link for the signup genius for the gala basket! Please be sure to read my note on there and sign up if you're willing and able! It is a huge fundraiser for Mountain View and Northeast! :)

Hope to see many of you on Tuesday for our Valentine's Party!

With SO much love,

Ms. Ham

Meet Ms. Ham

Hi, I'm Ms. Ham!  This is my 6th year teaching kindergarten. I love my job and my students (past and present!)  This website has all of our weekly updates to fill you in on what is going on in our classroom!  I hope that you leave with a kindergartener's enthusiasm for living and learning!
