Earth Science Week 2

We had another great week learning about the Sun, Earth, and Moon. We dove into temperature, seasons, and day and night.

We learned that the sun provides heat and light to Earth and investigated the differences in temperature in the sun and the shade. We also learned that the Earth is tilted and goes around the Sun, so that's why we have seasons!

We are mastering our sounds like crazy and starting to tap out CVC words on our own- one of our centers was real vs. nonsense (silly) CVC words this week:

We love our new writing center choice: Kindergarten offices...

Our poem this week was "The Star"

& We earned 100 paw cards and got to have our "Stuffed Animal Day" on PJ day for Spirit Week...

Ask Your Child About:

-Phonemic Awareness: Beginning Sounds, Onset & Rime, Rhyming Words

-Phonics: Dd (d, dog, /d/), Ss (s, snake, /s/)

-Reading: Table of contents (concept of print), Retelling the events/key details (beginning, middle, & end for fiction)

-Science: Earth Science- What does the sun give us? (heat & light) Why do we have seasons? (The Earth is tilted & goes around the Sun) Why does the temperature change in the sun and in the shade?

-Math: Geometry- practice naming and identifying 2d shapes! How many corners/vertices does a square have? How many sides does a hexagon have? (circle, square, rectangle, hexagon, trapezoid) What's the difference between a square and a rectangle? (a rectangle has 2 long sides and 2 short sides, a square's sides are all EQUAL)

-Writing: Where do we start a sentence? (the very left) What goes at the end of the sentence? (a period)

Reminders:

-Birthdays: PLEASE no birthday treats! We do birthday books & sing to celebrate your kiddo! We have many different food allergies in our classroom and it's not fair to kiddos who can't have the treat if you send one in! Thanks for understanding!

-Please send in the item you signed up for on the signup genius on Monday for Johnny Appleseed week!

-Please sign up for a fall conference if you have not yet done so! (I'm missing 2 kids!)

Have a wonderful long weekend!

With SO Much love,

Ms. Ham
