Thanksgiving

We continued on with learning about the past with Pilgrims and Native Americans this week with a whole lot of fun Thanksgiving turkey stories as well!

We've been hitting tree maps hard for writing! It makes writing like a math equation and it turns into 3 beautiful sentences (end of kindie goal...which many of them are achieving now...in NOVEMBER! Woo!)

Lincoln Log Houses for Pilgrim Houses :)

We kept with our feast/food theme for a lot of our centers...

Making shopping lists with the play food! **Want an authentic way to have your child write at home? Have them write your shopping list with you before you go to King Soopers or Costco! Let them cross the items off as you shop. It takes extra time, but they love it!

Setting the table by matching the plates, napkins, & silverware by alphabet. They read menus and ordered their meals!

*I love listening to the imagination that comes along with food centers! :)

Environmental Print Puzzles! These are easier ones that I put together really quickly to take a picture of, but some of them are many pieces and the kids love piecing them together to read the food! Another easy, authentic thing to do at home!

We disguised our turkeys and wrote about them:

They're hanging on our bulletin board! Please check them out when you have a chance!

We put on our chef hats & made "Thankful Pies"

Disclaimer: I did not put God on our list of things we are thankful for... some of the kids said they were thankful for God & my response was: "If you are thankful for God, you can write God on your pie... but I'm not going to put it on our list!" - Every family is different! :)

Happy Thanksgiving! I am so so so thankful for these little turkeys of mine. Thank you to all of you who attended our Thanksgiving Feast on Wednesday! I tried my very hardest to say hello to everyone, but if I missed you, it wasn't intentional! I asked all the kids their favorite part of the feast and one little munchkin said, "Having family come!" How stinkin' sweet!

Ask Your Child About:

-Phonemic Awareness: Phoneme segmentation (saying all the sounds in a word- Can you tap out kind? /k/ /i/ /n/ /d/) & Sound Manipulation (deleting a phoneme and then adding a different phoneme- Can you change the /b/ in bat to /c/? cat)

-Phonics: all letters & sounds! Please practice vowel sounds! They are the trickiest!

-Math: Addition! We learned domino addition this week & it's wonderful because we can make it as easy or as challenging as needed by picking different dominoes!

-Reading: Sequencing the events in a story, problem & solution

-Social Studies: History- the past! How are Pilgrims and Native Americans the same? How are they different? Why do we celebrate Thanksgiving?

-Writing: Tree Maps! What are the three parts of a tree map? (are, have, can) What is a cave man sentence? (can gobble. - Who can gobble? Fix to: Turkeys can gobble.)

Please refer to your child's ESGI printouts... I spent a lot of time updating their current data & making notes on the printouts for you! I also re-did their book bags and provided a letter explaining the DRA levels. I want you to have a relaxing and fun Thanksgiving break, but please spend 10 minutes a day working on school stuff! Thank you for your support! (& Yes, I have my own homework over every break- I read a new professional development book each one!)

With SO much love,

Ms. Ham
