Our crazy week started off with a lot of excitement Monday morning...

We went on a scavenger hunt to find clues from our gingerbread man throughout Mountain View...

One was in Mrs. Grotts's office! We eventually made it back to our classroom to find gingerbread man cookies to eat. We took our first bite & then paused to graph where we took our first bites! (See above!)

We continued sequencing & comparing and contrasting the characters, setting, & events in more gingerbread stories: "Gingerbread Pirates," "Gingerbread Baby," "A Cookie For Santa" and "Catch That Cookie!"

On Thursday, we went to the Learning Commons to do some Gingerbread STEM (science, technology, engineering & math) with Ms. Ott!

Dissolving our gingerbread man- Why he has to get on that tricky fox's tail in so many of the versions!

On Friday, we voted on our favorite gingerbread book!

***A HUGE thank you to the families who made us gingerbread cookies! We had a blast with all of the different activities we did with them & they were all so delicious! Thanks for making our learning so fun :) I wrote you each a thank you note- hopefully it made it home to you!

Ask Your child about:

-Phonemic Awareness: sound manipulation

-Phonics: digraphs /sh/ /ch/ /th/ & "soft g" (gi, ge, gy all say /j/ instead of /g/)

-Math: subtraction within 10

-Reading: Sequencing, Comparing & contrasting

-Social Studies: Chronology- sequencing

-Writing: Rereading our writing to make sure we have all the important parts & that it makes sense.

Updates/Reminders:

-Wednesday 12/20 is a "white out" day ---> wear white!

-Sign up items for polar express day are due Wed. 12/20

-Thursday 12/21 is our polar express day! Your child may wear pajamas & bring slippers and a stuffy if they'd like!

-Winter break starts Friday 12/22

-Your child is receiving a differentiated "winter break homework packet" to do over break that is optional...however, strongly suggested! If you just do one page a day, it is so helpful to keep your kiddo in the routine and their skills strong! All kids who return the winter break packet on our first day back in January will have lunch in the classroom with me as a reward! :)

-I gave the DRA to all the kids again this week (wasn't planning on it, but noticed the stinkers were flying through our reading group books & it was time... what a wonderful problem to have!) so no book bags until Monday since I need to re-do the levels! I'm SO proud of their growth.

-DIBELS & MPG reports will go home in Thursday folders on Thursday 12/21

-Report cards go live on Friday 12/22!

&& I'll leave you with this sweet picture because I love it & them. SO excited to see snow on Thursday! :)

Have a wonderful weekend!

With SO much love,

Ms. Ham
