Polar Animals: Week 2

We had another fun, short week learning about Polar Animals! We did an author study on Jan Brett by comparing and contrasting: "The Mitten," "The Hat," "The Wild Christmas Reindeer," and "Gingerbread Friends."

We learned about polar bears, seals, walruses, killer whales, and arctic hares. We made many bubble maps & tree maps about these animals!

Our highlight of the week was definitely our field trip to the zoo! We had the perfect weather (the animals were out and so active!) and we were the only school group, so we had the place to ourselves!

If you ever need confirmation that they love you... watch them react to seeing your favorite animal at the zoo... they LOST it and it was one of the sweetest moments!

Field trips are exhausting! :)

Thank you so very much to our 4 wonderful chaperones! We all had so much fun!

Ask Your Child About:

-Phonics: digraphs (/sh/, /wh/, /ch/, /th/) , decoding words with digraphs (ship, chat, math, chin)

-Phonemic awareness: sound manipulation

-Reading: checking to make sure it makes sense! Comprehension skills

-Math: mixed facts addition and subtraction- we took an assessment on Friday and it went home in your child's folder with a yellow note! Please see how your child did and continue to practice if necessary!

-Science: life science- polar animals (What are some features of polar animals that help them live in the cold?) We used pebblego to research killer whales and other arctic animals!

-Writing: tree maps galore!
