Matter: Snowmen

We stayed with our snowy January theme, but switched back to properties of matter to learn about snowmen! There are so many great fiction books about snowmen, so we did some serious higher order thinking during read alouds!

After reading, "Snowman Magic," we made snowman soup! The kids impressed me so much with their writing pieces about their soup! I told them they could write WHATEVER they wanted about their snowman soup because I wanted to see what they could do completely independently (no guidance whatsoever) and I was blown away! So many of them wrote 5+ beautiful sentences and I can tell who has been working on their best kindergarten handwriting!

They are on our bulletin board outside of our classroom if you'd like to check them out!

We had some fun new snowman centers and some more arctic animal centers!

Mrs. Grotts was in our room on Wednesday to watch our writing block and the kids were so excited to show her their writing. They begged to do Author's Chair, but we didn't have enough time after I got through all of our groups! So we slowed down on Thursday and spent our morning sharing our writing on Thursday!

We have another fun week of snowmen and matter next week before we move on to fairytales & fables in February!
