The 3 Bears & Valentine's Day

Love is... spending my days with these tiny humans (and those not pictured!)

We had such a fun week reading Valentine's Day books & finishing up our special projects:

The kids were so proud of them & I heard from so many of you that you just loved them... which made the heart attack of acrylic paint in my classroom all worthwhile! :)

We had so much fun at our Valentine's Day party!

[When your kids are done with the rotations, so they go to the library/tent to read... things that make my heart so full! They LOVE to read!]

Thank you so very much to our wonderful moms who planned & ran our party! Thank you to all of the parents who attended! Thank you to those of you who were so kind to gift me something for Valentine's Day (not necessary!)-- I always, always, always send home a hand-written thank you note to your child/you, so I hope that they make it home! If not, please know it was written and I truly appreciate you!

But our big focus of the week was "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" and comparing/contrasting the different versions! I forgot to take a picture of the kids with all of the different versions, but we read: "Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs," "Goldi Rocks and the Three Bears," and "Goldilocks and Just The One Bear." We found similarities and differences all week long, but also focused on the 5 finger retell!

This is a wonderful thing for your child to practice after being read to/reading to you DRA books at home!

On Thursday, Mrs. Taylor was in our classroom videotaping our read aloud for professional development and she was so impressed with our kids! She left us this note while we were at recess & the kids started reading it on their own... we're officially at that point in the year where they read EVERYTHING (so be careful parents! ha!).

Ask Your Child About:

-Phonics: long vowels & vowel teams

-Math: missing addend (6+__=10)

We use ten frames to help us find the missing addend at first, but we will learn many strategies and will be doing number bonds by the end of the week!

-Reading: 5 finger retell, comparing/contrasting

-Writing: Narratives- writing events linked together to tell a story

-STEAM: The kids had a lot of fun with some polar STEAM with Mrs. Tucker this week:

FYI:

-We also celebrated our 300th paw card party on Thursday with a movie in the afternoon!

-The office beat me to the punch with info. about Dr. Seuss week (our plan was to send home the flyer this Thursday and email out the signup genius the same day... so be on the lookout for that!)

-If you are willing to donate gallon ziplock bags to our room, I would greatly appreciate it! We go through a LOT of them from book bags & centers! :)

-Parent conference signups go live on Friday morning!

Hope you had a wonderful long weekend!

With SO much love,

Ms. Ham
