This week, we focused on St. Patrick's Day stories and writing as we geared up for Spring Break! We had a lot of fun writing about why we are lucky and making up stories about leprechauns and pots of gold!
We finished up our decomposing numbers unit and took our unit assessment on Thursday and Friday!

We bowled for a fun hands-on lesson! The number of pins we started with went on the top of our number tree and then how many we knocked down was one part and the number of pins left standing was the other part! They LOVED this. So many "thank you's" again! :) If only everyone was thanked as much as teachers are!
We also hit "ck" hard for phonics this week! We learned that if a word ends with /k/ sound and has a short vowel before it, then it ends with /ck/! If it is a long vowel, then it doesn't!
We made many bubble maps to find words that followed the rule!

Heads up: be careful while practicing this! They unintentionally tap out some "colorful" words! ha! I managed to intervene before they finished the word so there were no bad words spoken at school, but you've been warned! :)
Ask Your Child About:
-Phonics: /ck/ words
-Phonemic Awareness: sound manipulation
-Reading: 5 finger retell
-Math: decomposing numbers
-Social Studies: St. Patrick's day/traditions/community
-Writing: Narrative writing- stories about leprechauns, pots of gold, etc.
-Technology: Roll to the Finish
Spring Break Homework Challenge:
Your child is bringing home a differentiated homework packet to complete in order to earn lunch in the classroom on Monday when we return! This is "optional," but highly suggested! It shouldn't take more than 10 minutes a night! They are also taking home their new DRA level books in their book bag! Please read every night!

As much as conferences make for long days and a long week, I loved getting to have that little bit of time with each of you to tell you just how wonderful your munchkin is! I am feeling extra lucky to spend my days with such sweet & motivated kiddos!
FYI: I will be out of the country for spring break and I'm going to try to intentionally take a break from work emails! Please feel free to email me over break, but know that I won't be responding until next Sunday! Thanks for understanding! :)
Have a wonderful break!
With SO much love,
Ms. Ham
