Money!

We had a great first week back from Spring Break! I sure missed them & we had a lot of fun sharing about our breaks. I showed the kids pictures of monkeys, sloths, and iguanas from my trip to Costa Rica and they told every person they passed that a monkey stole my pineapple! It's so sweet how excited they get about things that make me happy. Plus a week off makes me even more sentimental about my kids!

We focused on an extension of our needs and wants unit: people work to earn money to buy things they need and save for things they want!

We read some fun books having to do with spending and saving money! The kids are ROCKING the 5 finger retell and determining who is a main character vs. just a character!

We dusted off our poetry journals and added a poem about coins this week!

We sorted coins during math and counted by coins (1s, 5s, 10s, 25s)- We rocked 1s and 10s and a lot of us did well with 5s, but please practice this important skill at home! If your child needs a challenge, have them practice counting money that is a combination of different coins!

Money is a challenging unit for them because we are all so guilty of using credit cards all of the time- they aren't exposed to coins and bills like we were when we were little!

We revisited careers and what we'd like to be when we grow up; it was fun to see how their ideas of what they'd like to do have changed as the year has progressed!

They did so well at their reader's theater performance with Mrs. Bufton on Friday! Thank you to all of you who were able to attend!
