Ocean Animals

This week, we started our last unit of living things (and of kindergarten!!): ocean animals! The kids have loved reading fiction & nonfiction books about dolphins, whales, manatees, sharks, etc.

The highlight so far has definitely been getting to hold a real whale bone from Florida and measuring the length of whales out in the hallway!

The whale bone and the picture of the skeleton of the whale! It was a little tail bone... HUGE!

We also started reading buddies for the last couple weeks of school with Ms. McIntosh's 2nd grade class! The kids LOVED it.

& We had our PJ and electronic party on Monday!

Ask Your Child About:

-Phonics: vowel teams

-Phonemic Awareness: sound manipulation

-Math: Mixed Facts (addition & subtraction), & end of year test!

-Reading: Retelling, using strategies, partner reading

-Science: living things- ocean animals!

-Writing: The Writing Process, ocean animal thinking maps + writing

FYI:

-Graduation Caps are due 5/23!! I've already gotten a couple back and they're looking great! Please reach out to me if you're unable to do this project!

-Library books & book loft books are overdue! Please send any in that you may have!

-There is no sight word bee anymore! Sorry for any confusion!

Upcoming Events:

-Games Day: Thursday 5/17 (parents are welcome to attend! I would love a lot of parents there because I'm a full grown child and do all of the events with the kids, so I love the extra supervision!)

-Kindergarten Graduation: Friday 5/25 @10:15 am!

Thank you to all of you who went out of your way to make me feel loved and appreciated this teacher appreciation week, though I have to say that I feel loved and appreciated **most** days! It was so thoughtful & unnecessary, but truly made my week! I always send home personal thank you's with your child, so if it didn't make it home- please know that it was written! :)

I hope you had a wonderful weekend!

With SO much love,

Ms. Ham
