Sun, Moon, & Stars

We've switched over from citizenship to some Physical Science standards: Sun, Moon, & Stars!

We went to the library for the first time and checked out books. If your child does not know his/her lunch number, please be practicing this at home because this is how they check out books in the library!

I was absolutely horrible about taking pictures this week, so I will do better next week! Here are some kid quotes instead:

Please help support me at home by keeping our little ones little... we've had a lot of talk about marrying & kissing, which has brought up class discussions about keeping all parts of our body to ourselves (including our mouths/kissing) and that kindergarteners don't get married! They can get married when they grow up! :)

Ask Your Child About:

-Phonics: YIKES! We've learned a lot of letters and sounds already and I can tell who is practicing them at home! If your child does not know how to correctly name the letters in his/her name and/or the letters and sounds for: t, b, m, n, a, g, c, o, u, f, g, i, p PLEASE work on these until he/she has mastered it!

-Phonemic awareness: syllables, beginning sounds, rhyming

-Writing: Magic Lines! We count the number of words in our sentence and draw that many magic lines in order to use our sounds and sight words (example: "I like dogs." would have three magic lines)

-Reading: We're consistently getting through 3 reading groups every single day... every once in a while, we get through all 4! I am still adamant that EVERY child will be in a reading group every day, so we're going to get there!

-Math: Greater than & less than- we learned a new game comparing numbers to 10 with ten frames!

-Science: We've been learning about the sun, moon, and stars. We will be learning about how the sun changes temperature next week!

FYI:

-Homework: Please make sure your child writes his/her OWN name on homework! They need this practice! :)

-Book Bags: Your child will be bringing home a plastic bag with 4-5 books at his/her reading level to practice reading at home as part of homework! This can and should count toward the reading log!

-Library: library books will always be due on Monday! If they don't bring their book back, they can't check out a new one!

-Bids For Kids: Thank you so much to those of you who have already contributed to our build-a-bear auction item! Please be sure to donate by Thursday! :)

Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

With SO much love,

Ms. Ham
