Properties of Matter: Apples

Get ready for picture overload! We had such a fun week learning about matter with apples!

We learned about adjectives/describing words by using our 5 senses...

Our favorite sense to use was taste! We taste tested red, yellow, & green apples!

Then we graphed our class data and used math words like greater than, less than, and equal!

We ended the week with making our own apple sauce in the crockpot! (Don't worry, it wasn't plugged in yet!)

We will be tasting it at the end of the day!! Thank you to all who donated! :)

We started a new procedure in the morning: poetry journals! Once the kids unpack, they glue a poem into their poetry journals, circle the sight words, and then we read it together as a class! This helps with phonics (sight words) and phonemic awareness (rhyming).

Number Corner this week made our kiddos "Shape Hunters" with badges! Each day on our calendar corresponded with a shape in the pattern. They had to find that shape somewhere in our classroom! They loved this! We also estimated and counted our month's collection total for unifix cubes! We collected 27!

In math, we used popsicle sticks to learn about tallies! We call the group of 5 "a gate" because it kind of looks like one! We also worked on counting EFFICIENTLY by counting on from 5 just like we do with ten frames!

We had our pajama & stuffie paw party on Monday!

And THREE kiddos got to make happy phone calls home on Tuesday because they've learned so many letters! I love doing this... but they love it even more! :)

Ask Your Child About:

-Phonics: Ss, Mm, Nn, Uu, Bb, Ff, Cc, Ii, Tt, Dd, Oo, Aa, Gg, Ee (e, Ed, /e/), Rr (r, rat, /r/)

-Phonemic Awareness: beginning sounds, rhyming, syllables, stretching sounds

-Writing: We sort of started writing groups this week! With all of our extra activities and conferences next week, we did the best we could! We'll get there right after fall break, I promise! We're working on stretching sounds using our magic lines and sight words!

-Reading: Reading groups are going SO well! The kids know the routines and procedures and are starting to own it!

-Science: Properties of Matter- apples

-Math: Tallies, Ten Frames, & "Which Bug Will Win?" game

FYI:

-Conferences are Tuesday and Thursday night next week!

-We are done with morning recess... we still have lunch recess & afternoon recess though!

-The gala is tomorrow night at the Vehicle Vault... I think there are still tickets available! Make sure to say hi! :)

-Homework continues to be an issue... please set a reminder in your phone or keep your child's homework folder & book bag in his/her backpack! :)

-Lunch Numbers: Please make sure your child knows his/her lunch number! It saves so much time! They can do it, I promise!

**ALL of our kids can write their names unassisted (without looking) and almost all of them are doing so with correct capitalization! WOO! :)

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

With SO much love,

Ms. Ham
