Motion

We switched gears to some physical science standards on motion! We read a lot of non-fiction books about forces and motion, pushing and pulling, and friction!

We experimented with forces using marbles and straws...

In writing, we wrote about transportation forms of motion: trucks, planes, trains, and boats!

In math, we worked really hard on number lines and number sense. We learned a new game called "Read My Mind" and the kids loved it! These two even made their own number line during free choice on Thursday!

We celebrated a good & fun week with a fun activity during community circle on Friday... I asked them why they were HAPPY that morning & here are their answers:

Ask Your Child About:

-Phonics: 100% letter ID & sounds

-Phonemic awareness: segmenting words, identifying words that don't belong based on initial sounds

-Writing: See my group-specific email from Friday!

-Reading: See my group-specific email from Friday!

-Science: Motion- forces: push, pull, both. Do we need forces to make us move? (No. We have muscles!)

-Math: Number lines & number sense. Pick a number on a number line and have your child guess what you're thinking... then as they guess, respond with "My number is greater than/less than __" and they can cross off all the numbers it can't be based on that answer!

-Technology: Starfall- Learn To Read

FYI:

-It is a big time of year for assessments! We take iReady mid-year assessments Monday & Tuesday for reading and the following Monday & Tuesday for math.

-They are all ready for major sight word focus now that they know their letters and sounds! Please be working on sight words nightly! This is the key to fluent reading!

-We will be having a Polar Express holiday party on the last day before winter break (12/20) and I will send out a sign up genius soon! This is super low-key and kids only... we will wear pajamas, have hot cocoa and watch the movie!

Have a wonderful weekend!

With SO much love,

Ms. Ham
