Growth Mindset + Goals
Happy New Year!
We had a really great week back and started it off with reading "Squirrel's New Year's Resolution" where he makes a goal to help someone every day! It's a super cute story; youtube it if you have some free time!
We came up with our own resolutions and wrote about one each day: personal, school and home! Then we created little flip books and they're on our bulletin board outside of our classroom!
We also read many books on growth mindset like "The Thing Lou Couldn't Do!" and focused on the power of "yet!" There's lots of things we can't do...yet! With effort, we will be able to soon!
To be honest... this ended up being my favorite thing we did all week! Their answers were absolutely precious! These are on our bulletin board in our classroom!
Ask Your Child About:
-Phonics: digraphs /sh/ /ch/ /th/ /wh/
-Phonemic Awareness: sound manipulation
-Writing: Sentences about goals!
-Reading: Using our strategies when we get to unknown words (skippy frog, eagle eye, fish lips, etc)
-Math: geometry! 2d vs. 3d shapes! Attributes of shapes, naming them, comparing them!
FYI:
-No school Friday 1/18 (professional development day)
-No school Monday 1/21 (MLK Day!)
-Please make sure your child is wearing WATERPROOF boots when it snows. The whining was real today about soggy boots! ;)
-Our drinking fountain isn't working- please make sure your child is bringing a water bottle every day!
Week 1 of meeting my New Year's Resolution on Friday updates!
Have a wonderful weekend!
With SO much love,
